Villagers garland contractor with shoes in Mayurbhanj district

Baripada: In an incident that took place here on Saturday, a contractor has learnt the lesson of his life when the people of Raikali village, which comes under Badagudugudia panchayat within Kaptipada police station limits in Mayurbhanj district, garlanded him with shoes after he took payments from them for constructing houses under Indira Awaas Scheme but did not complete construction.

Notably, the contractor had received payments from the beneficiaries under the Indira Awaas Scheme but failed to complete the construction works even after repeated requests from the residents. The villagers have therefore taken this step to punish him by humiliating him in public with a garland of shoes.

Parbati Singh, a resident of the village said, “The contractor had taken Rs 60000 and till date, the house has not been constructed. There is no sign of improvement in the half-built house. I feel let down waiting for construction to begin even today.”
