Vigilance unearths Gouda properties worth Rs 56.46 lakh
Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths have identified movable and immovable properties worth Rs 56.46 lakh belonging to fugitive doctor Motilal Gouda during a day-long raid at his residence today.
Sources at the Vigilance said Gouda owned an under construction house worth Rs 30 lakh in Berhampur, a luxury car worth Rs 30 lakh, furniture worth Rs 4 lakh and a diagnostic centre worth Rs 10 lakh at Kolathia in the name of his wife.
The details of the properties of Gouda would be known after examining the four bank accounts of Gouda and his wife, the sources added.
During the raid, the sleuths found some identity cards of Gouda one of which showed he was a junior tutor at KIIT. It is, however, not clear when he took up this job.
Meanwhile, the Opposition lambasted the State government over the escape of Gouda after a fraud case was registered against him.
Prasad Harichandan, PCC President, said, “These things are happening in the middle of the race for the next DGP. The chief minister is inclining towards one DGP at one time and another one the next time. For all this, one person is responsible and he is Naveen Patnaik.”
Expressing similar views, Pradip Purohit, BJP MLA, said, “The police know where Gouda is hiding. He is neither a Maoist nor a terrorist that he will slip out of the country. He was given ample scope to escape. This was done under instructions from the Third Floor (the CM’s office in the secretariat).
Refuting the charges, Pratap Keshari Deb, BJD spokesperson, said, “The vigilance raid has been conducted on the house of Gouda at the behest of the government. There is no question of suppressing the matter. The department will definitely take action after a probe.”
