Uliburu mining scam: Deepak Gupta’s bail hearing concludes, verdict reserved

Keonjhar: The bail plea hearing of the prime accused in the multi-crore Uliburu mining scam, Deepak Gupta concluded today. The verdict, reserved by the Keonjhar Special Vigilance Court, will be pronounced on December 16.

Along with Deepak, former deputy director of Mines of Joda Circle, Manas Mohanty also appeared before the court today.

“Deepak Gupta’s bail petition has already been rejected by Supreme Court and the Orissa High Court. The current bail plea was filed after submission of chargesheet. Today the court heard the bail plea and has reserved its verdict till December 16,” said lawyer, Ashok Das.

It may be mentioned that the State Vigilance in course of its investigation into over Rs 1800 crore scam in Uliburu mines in Keonjhar district had framed charge sheet against 29 persons of which four persons were arrested and forwarded to the court. While nine persons had managed to obtain advance bail from Orissa High Court, the state government is yet to give permission to the Vigilance to register cases against three officials. They are former Director of Mines Rabindra Narayan Sahu, former Keonjhar DFO Pradip Raj Karat and former Keonjhar ACF Bimal Prasanna Acharya.
