Sunil Meher’s remand extended by four days
Bhubaneswar: Still trying to break through the intricate web of inter-state networking of sex racket kingpin Sunil Meher and elicit more information on his ‘paid girlfriend’ network across the country, the Commissionerate police on Tuesday sought – and got – his remand for four more days.
Official sources said police wants to know more about the modus operandi of Meher’s ‘call-girl’ business, which was being operated in the guise of providing escort services. Police said he was running escort service websites to attract rich customers, especially from New Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and Goa.
Interestingly, Sunil was operating his network smoothly while on bail in nine criminal cases.
“He committed the crime while on bail in nine cases. Hence, concerned Inspectors-in-charge, through APPs, will appeal to the court for cancellation of his bail,” Police commissioner YB Khurania said.
Police sources said in the wake of the recent arrest of a Kyrgyz woman, it will also look into Sunil’s possible involvement in any global sex racket.
“During interrogation, we have got some information on the modus operandi and networking of Meher. We hope to get more on this. In days to come, we will work out on those information gathered from him,” Khurania stated.
Sunil Meher, the alleged kingpin of a flesh trade racket in Odisha and outside, had as many as 150 girls, mostly college students, who were working as ‘paid girlfriends’ for rich customers across the country.
