RTO officials quizzed for registering ghost vehicles

Chandikhol: Four officials of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Chandikhole were interrogated by police for allegedly issuing registration certificates for ghost (nonexistent) vehicles. Along with these four officials, a broker was also questioned today by police, who detained them after receiving complaints regarding registration of ghost vehicles.

Earlier, Odisha Television had carried an investigative report on how ghost vehicles are being registered following which Chandikhol RTO had cancelled the registration of 27 such vehicles.

Badachana police have registered a case and have begun investigations into the matter.

Two days back, the Badchana police had seized seven ghost oil tankers in Paradip, Cuttack, and Keonjhar.

While the owners of these vehicles are absconding, police sources informed that all brokers and RTO officials involved in this fake registration racket will be apprehended soon.
