‘Remove Justice Das’ cry unites BJP, Congress
Bhubaneswar: After targeting the ruling BJD over the Pajero vehicle issue involving Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Sanjay Dasburma, the Opposition Congress and BJP now have trained their guns at the regional party for the ‘irresponsible’ remark of chit fund Commission head Justice MM Das.
The parties have hit the streets to garner public support after failing to get Justice Das, who has drawn all round flak for his statement that the public were duped by the chit fund companies due to their greed and the State government can do little in this regard, removed from his post.
While the Congress party staged demonstrations in all its organizational districts across the State demanding ouster of Das on Monday, the saffron party gheraoed the Commission’s office in Cuttack to press their demand.
At many places, the sloganeering protesters organized rallies and blocked roads creating inconvenience to general public. Effigies of Justice Das were also seen burnt at places like Bhadrak and Cuttack.
Addressing a rally in Bhubaneswar, general secretary of the party Sulochana Das said, “It is now clear that the poor investors will not get their money back and the State government has clarified this through the Commission. We demand that the government should dismiss the Commission with immediate effect and initiate steps to refund money to the investors.”
“If the State government fails to take any steps against the Commission head, our party will oraganise a massive rally in the State capital in the coming days under the leadership of OPCC chief Prasad Harichandan,” senior Congress leader Sura Routray said.
The BJP workers staged a sit-in in front of the Commission’s office at Cuttack while shouting slogans that justice Das must resign from his post.
“The judicial Commission was set up for an impartial probe into the chit fund scam and not for making a statement in favour of the State government. Justice Das must resign immediately or the State government should issue a notification announcing dismissal of the Commission,” stated BJP’s Nayan Mohanty.
To strengthen its voice against the BJD, the BJP has decided to stage demonstrations at all organizational districts demanding dismissal of Justice Das and resignation of Dasburma.
Meanwhile, condemning the Opposition parties’ approach on the issue both inside and outside the House, the BJD has said the issues need a discussion.
“We always welcome the issues raised by the parties. But these should be presented in an amicable way. The parties must refrain from unruly behavior in the House so that we will be able to discuss on it,” BJD spokesperson Dibya Shankar Mishra said.
