Ravenshaw authorities tighten security inside campus, squad formed
Cuttack: With an objective to put a check on disturbing elements in the Ravenshaw varsity here, authorities formed a ‘discipline squad’ today. Comprising of 40 lecturers the squad is assigned with the duty of maintaining discipline inside the campus.
The decision on the part of the varsity authorities came in the wake of the September 14 violence on the campus. Briefing on the initiative Ravenshaw Vice Chancellor Professor Prakash Chandra Sarangi informed that, ID cards have been made mandatory to enter into the campus after dusk where as arrangements are being made to install CCTVs inside the campus.
“We have beefed up the security inside Ravenshaw varsity and spot searches are being conducted inside the hostels. Apart from that 30 CCTV cameras are being installed inside the campus,” said Sarangi.
While the VC appeared self-contented with their arrangements, students expressed their anger over the attitude of the varsity authorities. They demanded immediate withdrawal of the suspension order on four students following September 14 brawl.
“We strongly oppose the way four of the students of the varsity were suspended after September 14 violence and demand immediate withdrawal of the order,” said Rajalaxmi Sahu, a MCA student.
