Rangalal Jamuda appointed State Food Commission chairperson

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Monday constituted a three-member State Food Commission with Rangalal Jamuda, a retired Odisha cadre IAS officer of 1981 batch and former Union secretary, Food Processing Industries, as its chairman.

The two other members of the Commission are former CBI Special Judge Manoj Kumar Panda and former MLA Sipra Mallick, a release by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

While the chairman of the Commission would be accorded the status of the chief secretary, the two members will have the status of principal secretary, the release added.

A total of 17 aspirants had applied for the post of chairman.

Jamuda, who recently superannuated from his service, had served as special secretary and additional secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture. He had also served as principal secretary, Agriculture in the Odisha government.

Former MLA of Kendrapara, Sipra Mallick, who is the new member of the Commission, has a proven record of work relating to food and nutrition rights of the poor.

Manoj Kumar Panda, the other member of the Commission, has recently superannuated from judicial service. He was Special Judge CBI and has wide knowledge and experience in Law, Human Rights and Public Administration.

The newly formed Commission will probe any matter relating to implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the state.

The Commission will prepare annual reports, which will be placed in the State Assembly.
