Pradhan demands CBI probe into Tarabha youth murder case
Bhubaneswar: Terming Tarabha incident of Dhenkanal district, in which BJP youth activist Salman Rout was shot by an OSAP jawan few days ago, a heinous crime, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday demanded CBI probe into the incident.
Pradhan who met the bereaved family of Rout said impartial probe can’t be done by Crime Branch of Odisha police. The State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday recommended the Odisha government to initiate a probe by Crime Branch into the incident.
“If the State government is really interested for a fair inquiry, it should hand over the probe charge to CBI immediately. Giving protection to accused is the prime work of State Crime Branch. Such an agency can’t conduct a transparent investigation”, Pradhan told newsmen after meeting relatives of the deceased.
“I came to know about the incident from newspaper and TV. But, I met the family members and villagers today and was convinced that it is the most heinous and a pre-planned murder”, Pradhan added.
Comparing the incident with the British regime, the Oil minister alleged the male police forces thrashed the bereaved family members on the fateful day. “What is happening in the State now-a-days? In the name of pacifying the crowd, it is disheartening to see cops beat up women who had gone to bring body of the deceased. It is again unthinkable that the whole incident happened in front of the SP. The matter can be compared with the incident of the death of Baji Rout by British”, Pradhan stated.
Meanwhile the ruling party has said the matter should not be politicised.
“The BJP should refrain from giving political colours to every incident. Our party doesn’t believe in violence. The Centre must bring laws so that every crime will be investigated by the CBI,” BJD spokesperson Sashibhusan Behera maintained.
