Post mortem reveals DAV girl died of suffocation after hanging herself: DCP

Bhubaneswar: The post mortem report confirmed that Tanya Banerjee, a girl student of the DAV School of Business Management (DSBM) died of ‘suffocation due to hanging’, DCP Satyabrat Bhoi said here on Tuesday.

Tanya’s body was found hanging inside the hostel of DSBM in Bhubaneswar on November 28.

Tanya’s family had alleged that the incident was a “well-planned murder.” The family claimed that Tanya had called her mother and was complaining of harassment by hostel inmates over false allegations of theft of some cosmetic items.

Based on the complaint, Commissionerate police had registered a case and had also recorded statements of 10 girl students of the college, concerned hostel superintendent, warden and security guard.

Bhoi further informed that probe in connection with abetment of suicide and other aspects is on by a five member police team.
