Bhubaneswar: The process of identification of actual investors duped in the chit-fund scam in the State will be over by the end of June, said Chief Secretary AP Padhi after a review meeting at the Secretariat here.
Talking to newsmen, Padhi stated, “A three-member team has been formed at block-level to undertake field verification and identify actual investors affected by the chit-fund scam.”
The State’s Finance Secretary Tuhinakant Pandey, who was also present in the review meeting, said, “A specially-designated court has directed the State government to consider refund to around 3.93 lakh depositors of Rose Valley whereas the Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry has identified 12,000 small depositors hit by the chit-fund scam.”
Pandey added, “The process for verification of depositors will be either videographed or captured on CCTV cameras. The three-member team comprising an ASI, Revenue Inspector and Extension Officer will undertake the field verification which is mandated under the OPID Act.”
To discourage claimants from making false claims, the government has set up a toll free number on which someone can provide information on the refund process, Pandey added.
