Petrol adulteration: DGP orders criminal proceedings against errant dealers

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to check adulteration of petrol and manipulation of quantity through illegal rigging of metres with help of electronic chips, Odisha police today issued strict warning with DGP RP Sharma directing officials to conduct checks and initiate criminal proceedings against unscrupulous petrol pump owners and dealers.

Directing all Superintendants of Police (SsP) and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCsP), the DGP has asked them to take appropriate action against dishonest businessmen and prosecute them under sections of IPC and Odisha Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1951.

The DGP also emphasized on proper coordination between Civil Supply and Legal Metrology (Weights and Measures) departments for joint verification and registration of cases. This apart, he has also directed the SsP and DCsP to intensify collection of intelligence inputs in the matter.

The officials have also been instructed to submit monthly report on such activities to CID and Crime Branch.
