Paradip man ties knot with transgender

Paradip: While ample incidents of stigmatisation continue to surface, Saroj Sahu of Rangiagada village in Paradip has set an example by getting married to a transgender, Kinnar Mama of Ramachandipada in Jagatsinghpur district.

The marriage was solemnised amid cheerful celebrations with people belonging to the Third Gender (TG) community also taking part along with the locals. The transgender association of Paradip had made all arrangements for the wedding.

According to sources, Saroj and Mama started their friendship on Facebook and later fell in love with each other after a few months. After three years, the couple tied the knot as per Hindu rituals at a temple in Paradip Gada today.

“We came in touch with each other through Facebook and later met at Paradip beach after a few months. Despite being a transgender, I got married to a man today. I am very happy for that,” said Kinnar Mama.

“I have always loved her though my family members have never accepted our relationship,” said Saroj.

Kinnar Mama is the second transgender in the State to have got married to a man. Last year, 27-year-old Kinnar Meghna Sahoo married to one Basudeba Nayak in Bhubaneswar.
