Opp sketches plans to corner govt in Assembly

Bhubaneswar: The Opposition parties in Odisha are all set to corner the ruling party during the second phase of the Budget session in the State Assembly starting from Monday.

Narasingha Mishra, Leader of Opposition, said, “Farmer suicide has raised its ugly head again. Besides, we will move an adjournment motion in the House on rapport between political leaders irrespective of parties and persons involved in criminal activities.”

Expressing similar views, Pradip Purohit, BJP MLA, said, “We will demand a reply from Minister Ashok Panda, who was served a notice from the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) notice regarding receiving plots under the discretionary quota.”

Apart from this, issues on outbreak of jaundice in Cuttack and scarcity of drinking water would also be raised in the House, he added.

Showing the party’s preparedness to counter attack from the Opposition in the House, Rohit Pujari, Deputy Chief Whip of the ruling party, said, “Whatever issues will be raised by the Opposition, we will answer those.”

Pujari added the BJD MLAs will raise in the House about the Centre’s delay in providing financial assistance to farmers due to the drought.

After a gap of five days, the second phase of the Budget Session will start on Monday and is likely to discuss the general budget and draft proposals.

The budget session of the House will conclude on March 31.
