Odisha signs MoU with Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation

Bhubaneswar: Ace Indian badminton player and the current coach of the Indian national team, Pullela Gopichand, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Odisha-SAI Regional Badminton Academy and Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation.

During the event, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled coffee table book ‘Challenge to Opportunity’. The book details the story of 90-day challenge and Odisha’s road to hosting Asian Athletics Championships which was held in Bhubaneswar last year.

Earlier today, speaking exclusively to OTV after arriving at Bhubaneswar, Gopichand lauded the Odisha government’s efforts in creating platform for nurturing badminton players in the State.

“The state government is taking good steps to encourage the talented youngsters in the state. We hope that in the future we will have players from Odisha who will represent India at the international level,” Gopichand said.

Not only as an individual player but as coach, Gopichand has gained accolades for training star players like Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu.

In April, Saina claimed her second individual Commonwealth Games gold medal by defeating world number 3, PV Sindhu, 21-18 23-21 in a riveting women’s singles final.

While Sindhu won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016, Saina is also an Olympic bronze medalist.
