Odisha pays tribute to Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das
Odisha observes Madhubabu jayanti
Bhubaneswar: Floral tributes were paid to Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das, the architect of modern Odisha on his birth anniversary being observed with pomp and grandeur here on Friday.
Various social organisations offered tributes to Madhu babu at his Samadhi at Gorakabar, his statue at Cantonment road and at his workplace at Madhusmruti at Mission Road in Cuttack where he stayed from 1889 till his death in February 1934.
The foremost modern thinkers of our country and the architect of modern Odisha, Madhusudhan Das played a vital role in his capacity as a lawyer, political reformer, litterateur and social worker. He played a major role in the formation of the separate Odisha state.
Madhu babu was a visionary par excellence and a tireless worker for the socio-political and economical upliftment of the people. He not only spearheaded the campaign for separate Odisha province but also fought for the freedom of expression, education, rural development and labour reforms.
Madhu Babu had formed Utkal Sammillani in 1903 with its foremost objective to build an organisation to fight for the amalgamation of the Odia-speaking tracts.
People of Cuttack also visited Madhusudan Sangrahalaya that runs from a small hall on the ground floor of Madhusmruti, which was once the home of Madhusudan Das. The part of the building is now part of Shailabala Women’s College today.
