Odia man arrested in Mumbai for obscene act before woman in local train
Bhubaneswar/Mumbai: The Government Railway Police (GRP), on Monday, arrested a youth hailing from Odisha for allegedly indulging in an obscene act in front of a woman in a local train.
The incident took place between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Masjid Bunder railway stations on October 21 when the woman was on her way to Belapur in a local train, said a senior official of the GRP.
The 30-year-old man travelling in the same train unzipped his pant and indulged in an obscene act before the woman,” the official said, adding that the woman approached the railway police at CSMT and lodged a complaint against the person.
Following the complaint, multiple police teams were formed. Police also went through the CCTV footages to identify the accused.
“After his identity was established, he was finally traced near the CSMT station around 6 am on Monday and arrested,” PTI quoted the official as saying.
The accused, identified as Krupa Patel, has been booked under section 354 (making sexually coloured remarks) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC.
The accused is believed to be a pavement dweller who used to work as a labourer and hails from Odisha. Meanwhile, further investigation into the matter is underway, the official added.
