No names finalised for RS poll yet: Naveen
Bhubaneswar: The BJD has not finalised its nominees for the three seats from Odisha in the biennial elections to Rajya Sabha, which will be held on June 11, said party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik after returning from New Delhi on Tuesday.
Patnaik, who returned Odisha on Tuesday evening, said during his four-day visit to the national capital, he discussed with the prime minister Narendra Modi on issues like the drought situation and water conservation in the state.
Talking to media persons on his return, Patnaik said, “I have urged the prime minister to release an additional Rs 1,745 crore as drought assistance. Besides, I have also requested the PM to increase the wage rate under the MGNREGS from Rs 174 per day to Rs 200 per day.”
The tenure of three Rajya Sabha members of Odisha – Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, Bhupinder Singh and Baishnab Pariba is ending on July 1.
The elections to the three seats of Odisha in the upper house will be held on June 11.
While the last date for filing of nomination is May 11, the verification of the nomination paper would be done on June 1. The election process will conclude on June 13.
