‘No helmet, no petrol’ in Rourkela

Rourkela: In what surely is a unique idea, all petrol pumps in the Steel City have been directed not to sell petrol to two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets.

According to reports, the district administration, has launched this initiative with the help of the police to create awareness among people about safe driving.

The district administration has also put up sign boards at all petrol pumps, besides deploying policemen to ensure strict adherence to the ‘No helmet, no petrol’ rule, reports added.

Besides, to keep a close watch and to monitor the programme, the administration has installed CCTVs in some petrol pumps.

Speaking about the new initiative, Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh said a similar drive would be launched for four wheeler drivers not wearing seat belts.
