No complaint, no case: police wash hands off Baijayant attack case

Cuttack: A day after stones and eggs were hurled at BJP MP Baijayant Panda at Mahanga, the Cuttack rural police today washed its hands off the matter saying no case has been registered in the matter as there was no complaint on the issue.

“Since we have not received any complaint till now, we have not registered any case in this connection. We would examine some video footage and meet eyewitnesses of the local area if we receive any complaint ”, said Cuttack rural SP Madhav Chandra Sahu.

Asked whether police wouldn’t take suo motu cognisance of the incident where the Kendrapara MP was attacked, Sahu replied in negative. “Neither have we received any complaint nor seen any video footage of the MP being attacked”, the SP said adding the situation, however, is under the scrutiny of the police.

After such statement of police surfaced in media, the MP responded to it through a tweet saying that it is nothing less than a joke when police want FIR on an incident which took place in their presence.

“ROFL.. Clearly prev day vandalism, letter from my ofc, AND large police presence during attack not enough. Oh, well”, Baijayant Panda tweeted.

The Parliamentarian further reacted to a twitterati on the matter saying seeking complaint on a violence should be considered an indication of breakdown of law  & order.

“If it needs complaint-filing for action against violence which happens right in front of police, wd that indicate breakdown of law & order?”, he stated in response to a tweet.

Some party workers had created ruckus by hurling stones and eggs at Panda on Tuesday when he was in Mahanga area to inaugurate a drinking water project funded by his MPLAD funds.
