National women’s panel member slams Odisha Police
Bhubaneswar: National Women’s Commission (NWC) member Sushma Sahu today lashed out at the Odisha police and the State government for their failure in ensuring a safe and secure environment for women in the State.
NWC member Sahu will be meeting Parbati Sasmal of Kalikuda in Jagatsinghpur, who was allegedly attacked by BJD supporters for handing over a letter to Prime Minister during a road show in Bhubaneswar.
Crime against women have shown an increasing trend in Odisha but the police are yet to wake up and are simply working at the behest of the State government, said Sahu. “Odisha has become a slaughter house for women and ironically the police here have become puppets in hands of the government,” alleged Sahu.
As per reports, the women commission is receiving loads of complaints from across the State. After failing to get help from the police, the victims of violence are knocking the door of the commission.
Commenting on Sahu’s allegations, BJD spokesperson Captain Dibya Shankar Mishra said there is need to look into the allegation she has made. The police are doing their best to make sure Parbati Sasmal will get justice at the earliest, Mishra added.
Sahu is scheduled to meet Sasmal tomorrow.
