Man beaten to death over suspected political enmity in Dhenkanal


Bhubaneswar:  A man has been allegedly killed by unidentified assailants over political enmity Gandia in Dhenkanal district. The deceased has been identified as Mayadhar Pradhan.

According to reports, Mayadhar was attacked and subsequently beaten to death near Koseida square while he was returning home late night yesterday. The family of the deceased suspected the ongoing political rivalry behind the brutal murder.

Though Mayadhar did not have any political affiliation or links, his brother worked an activist for a particular political party and had picked up a dispute with workers of another party during the recently concluded panchayat elections in the state, sources said.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident basing on the complaint filed by the deceased’s brother. The body Mayadhar has been sent for autopsy while investigation has started into the incident, senior police officials said.

“The deceased might be a supporter of a party but he was attacked by miscreants in an inebriated state. We had conducted raids at several places and hope that they accused will be arrested soon,” said Dhenkanal SP Basant Panigrahy.
