Lady Maoist surrenders in Koraput

Koraput: It was the dream of education that has now motivated Chitren Pangi, an 18-year-old Maoists to lay down arms before Koraput police on Friday.

Chitren was an active member of Guma area committee of AOBSZC, operating in Chitrakonda and Machkund area in Malkangiri district.

According to police, Chitren had joined the outlawed CPI (M) in May 2017 after being instigated by a few local group leaders. Soon she became an active member of Sudhir’s group.

A senior official informed that Chitren was a member of the Jana Natya Mandali and was also trained as ‘team doctor’.

She also had knowledge of different medicines and during her brief stint with the Maoists, Chitren had helped the ultras in collecting local intelligence about the presence of the security forces in Guma area.

“Chitren became disillusioned soon after joining the Maoists group and left the party. She was also fed up with the anti-people attitude of the group and unjustified violence against people,” said SP, Kanwar Vishal Singh.

Singh further said that Chitren now wants to pursue education post her surrender and all assistance will be provided to her.
