Kneel Discipline: Home Guards punished for improper uniform in Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj: Four Home Guards including a woman were ordered to kneel before the District Home Guard Office here by the Reserve Inspector for not coming with proper dress code and pictures of the instance have gone viral in the social media.

The incident happened on June 25 when all four Home Guards who were on a special duty on eve of Rath Yatra were made to kneel before their office for about two minutes after their senior officer, the Reserve Inspector Ashok Kumar Sethi found them flouting the dress code and not wearing proper uniform during an inspection.

The inspector said the decision to punish the Home Guards was disciplinary action for not following dress code during duty hours.

“Since the government provides uniforms, it is expected of the personnel to follow official dress code. Senior officials question us for their improper uniform. Hence, I ordered them to kneel for only two to three minutes. That is all,” Sethi told mediapersons.

Home Guard DG Binay Behera has taken up the matter seriously and sought a report from Mayurbhanj SP and Home Guard Commandant. “We will take action as per the report,” said Behera.
