IMFA awarded ‘Green Product’ certification by CII
Bhubaneswar: Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA) has been awarded ‘Green Product’ certification by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for its pioneering effort in producing Low Density Aggregates from fly ash.
The recognition was awarded by CII – Green Product and Services Council at the Green Cementech 2016 conference held in Hyderabad on May 12 after earlier evaluating the production process, use of waste material, process efficiency and other environment friendly measures.
Low Density Aggregate (LDA) is an eco-friendly substitute for stone chips. It is a form of light weight aggregate produced from fly ash via a sintering process and has all the requisite process for use in PCC and RCC. IMFA has pioneered LDA in India and the unit at Choudwar in Cuttack (co-located with the Company’s captive power plants) is capable of producing 175 thousand tonnes per annum.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Behera, Vice President, Head, Corporate Affairs and Legal, said “We are delighted that our pioneering effort in producing eco-friendly LDA has been recognised. It is a product of the future which will gainfully utilise fly ash while preventing the degradation of the environment arising out of stone quarrying. We are already using LDA at our various sites and will step up our marketing efforts.”
CII has launched ‘GreenPro’ Green Product Certification for India in association with UL (Underwriters Laboratories), an independent safety science company, to promoting safe living and working environments.
