Gymnast Deepa pitches for govt assistance for sportspersons
Bhubaneswar: Indian women artistic gymnast Deepa Karmakar who not only opened a new door for India in Olympics this season but also went down the length of winning millions of hearts even sans a medal has spoken his heart here today. Pitching for government assistance for sportspersons at the press conference here, she insisted that it is vital for success.
Deepa said, she is eyeing for the 2020 Olympic Games scheduled to be held at Tokyo and her preparation is in full swing. Deepa visited the capital city of Odisha on Saturday to attend the 39th convention of the Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) along with her coach Bisweswar Nandi.
Speaking on the occasion Nandi said, Odisha does not lack sports talents but they should be nurtured to their full potentiality. He laid emphasis on bringing in the Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach Ashok Mishra to train budding talents in the state.
Notably, Deepa performed brilliantly in the recently concluded Rio Olympics but finished fourth in the Gymnastics final.
