Govt not keen to provide jobs to youth: BJP

Bhubaneswar: Two days after the Odisha government appointed Mindtree Consulting founder Subrata Bagchi as chairman of the State Skill Development Authority, BJP on Sunday said the ruling party has no interest in providing employment to the youth in the State.

Dilip Mohanty, BJP spokesperson, said, “During the 2014 poll campaign, the chief minister had announced that 40,000 people will get jobs in six months. However, positions are lying at different departments. Around 37% posts are yet to be filled in the departments. In Home department alone, 27% positions are lying vacant.”

Mohanty added, “Though Rs 100 each was collected from youths of the State in the name of organising a job fair, nothing has been done yet.” He also criticized the formation of the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) while questioning the pace of industrial development in the State.

Refuting the charges, Sasmita Patra, BJD spokesperson, said, “The State government appointed Bagchi as the chairman of the Skill Development Authority with the purpose to utilise his experience to develop the skill of the youth of the State. People should welcome the step and the appointment should not be politicised.”
