Government High School Contractual Teachers Gherao Minister’s Residence
Bhubaneswar: Demanding hike in grade pay and salary, members of Odisha Government High School Contract Teachers Association (OGHCTA) have today gheraoed the official residence of School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra.
The association demanded that the State government should revoke Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) and introduce transfer facility. The teachers also sought salary hike and a 10 per cent hike in grade pay.
“Our first demand is to revoke OTET under which the government cancelled the engagement of teachers recruited in 2014 but reinstated them after we protested against the move. However, they are being forced to appear the eligibility test in this short span of time when they are already suffering from mental stress. They are even threatened to appear the test or face termination,” said an agitating teacher.
Talking to OTV further, he said, “We also want transfer facility which sikshya sahayaks (SS) avail. While regular teachers are getting a monthly pay of Rs 50,000, contractual teachers working in the same school are getting a mere Rs 13,375 even though they both work for six years on contractual basis. Ironically, the latter have to work more.”
Clarifying the problems due to lack of transfer facilty, another member of OGHCTA said a teacher working in a different district should get transfered to his own district as managing family with such a minimal pay without house rent and DA is not possible.
Meanwhile, OGHCTA also carried out a rally and staged dharna at the Lower PMG.
