Fire Services department raids malls, hotels in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: After crackdown in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, Odisha Fire Services Department has now turned its focus on various shopping malls and hotels in Sambalpur.

As many as 13 teams of Bhubaneswar Fire Services department are conducting raids as part of a massive fire safety audit across the city today.

“26 various establishments including educational institutions, hotels and shopping malls are being inspected today. The basic objective is to examine whether fire safety and life-saving measures are adequate or not,” said fire officer, BB Das.

Das further informed that the owners of the concerned institutions will be served notices to comply with the prescribed fire safety guidelines and subsequently action would be taken if they fail to take corrective measures.

Meanwhile, hotel owners in Sambalpur have welcomed such an initiative by the Fire Services department.

“It is part of the State-wide drive to ensure that adequate fire safety measures are in place in all public places. The fire department has started its inspection and we will see how to incorporate their suggestions to improve fire safety arrangements,” said Jasbir, a hotel owner.
