Doctors stage cease-work stir at Athagarh hospital

Athagarh: Healthcare service at the Athagarh Sub-divisional Hospital disrupted today as doctors resorted staged a cease-work strike protesting the assault on a doctor by two youths during the wee hours on October 10.

Notably, two youths of the locality allegedly thrashed Pediatrician doctor Chandan Gadnayak of the hospital following an argument over treatment of a patient injured in an accident. The doctor had later lodged an FIR at the Athagarh police station in this regard.

SDMO Prashant Kumar Hota said health service at both outdoor and emergency wards of the hospital has been affected with the doctors resorting to cease-work stir despite repeated appeals. They are protesting against the inaction of the police over the incident on October 10.

“I have informed the Sub-Collector, SDPO, SP and Collector about the matter. The Collector said he will come and look into the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, main accused in the incident, Pupul Das, has surrendered before the police.

On the other hand, Cuttack Collector Nirmal Mishra reached the sub-divisional hospital to review the situation. After a meeting with SP, PD DRDA and CDMO, Mishra told newsmen, “Two doctors will be brought from the nearby hospitals so that health services do not get affected due to the ceasework. Besides, discussions are on with the striking doctors to resolve the issue.”
