Cong activists thrash people, ransack offices during bandh

Bhubaneswar/Anandpur/Angul: Violence erupted at several places in the state during the 12-hour Odisha bandh called by the State Congress on the contentious Mahanadi issue today.

In Gudiapokhari area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, a youth was allegedly beaten up by some Congress activists during the bandh. Similarly, a bus and an auto was damaged by the striking activists near Vani Vihar Law College.

Congress activists barged into the Anandpur Barrage Division office in Ghasipura block and ransacked it. Important files were destroyed by the agitators in the office.

In another case of violence during the bandh, Congress activists damaged computer lab at the Tehsil office in Athagarh destroying properties worth more than a lakh of rupees.

Similar violence were also reported at the Banrapala Tehsil and block offices. Some Congress activists had a scuffle with the IIC of Nalco police station in Angul.

Akshaya Das, a Congress worker, sustained injuries on his wrist after being stabbed by a shop keeper at Olavar under Rajkanika police station in Kendrapara district after a heated argument between the two over shutting down the shop. He was treated at the Olavar hospital. A case in this regard has been registered at the Rajkanika police station.
