CM to review performance of depts on May 21

Bhubaneswar: With the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government completing the second year of its fourth term in Odisha on May 21, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik today initiated the process to review the performance of various departments in the last one year.

In his letter written to all ministers on Thursday, Patnaik has asked them to submit the yearly report card of their departments for assessment of their performance in accordance with the promises made in the party’s election manifesto for the 2014 elections.

The chief minister has also asked the ministers to conduct a review of their department with the concerned secretary and officials and submit a report to him in two weeks after which he will review the performance of all departments on May 21.

Talking to OTV, Housing and Urban Development minister Pushpendra Singhdeo said all possible steps have been taken to fulfill the promises made by the BJD in its election manifesto.

“Though some of the promises have not been completed, efforts are being made to expedite the process for their early completion. I will brief the chief minister about these steps,” he added.

Women and Child Development (WCD) minister Usha Devi said for the first time, one department has been created in the WCD department known as Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) to pay special attention to the welfare of the physically challenged persons.

“The chief minister will review the performance of the WCD and SSEPD departments,” she said.

Handloom and Textile minister Snehangini Chhuria said her department has implemented a host of measures for the welfare of weavers with a special focus on their livelihood.

“The department has implemented all the programmes introduced by the state government for the welfare of the weavers. We have prepared a comprehensive report on the progress made by the department in the last one year, which will be submitted to the chief minister in a couple of days,” she informed.

Notably, the chief minister had done a similar review of the departments on the completion of the first year of the fourth term of the BJD government in the state on May 21 last year.
