BJD warns leaders defying gag order of action

Bhubaneswar: With rumblings in the BJD over the Sanjay Dasburma issue refusing to die down despite a stern warning from party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the ruling party today warned leaders publicly defying the whip of action. .

“Since the CM has advised all party members, including MPs, MLAs and ministers, not to make statements other than those relating to their domain, all should obey this. Any deviation would attract action from the party’s president,” BJD spokesperson Sameer Dash said.

“It has been observed that the CM has taken action against leaders who have gone against his whip. This time also, there would be no exception,” he stated.

The media statement of Dash came after Excise minister Damodar Rout and BJD’s Jagastsinghpur district president Bishnu Das defied the reprimand of the party chief two days back.

While Bishnu Das, citing his own example, had reiterated that the beleaguered minister must resign on moral grounds, Rout questioned the veraccity of BJD spokesperson Sashi Bhusan Behera’s statement about the CM’s order.

“Behera is not a minister; how could he know about something which the chief minister said in a Cabinet meeting?” Rout had asked.

Interestingly, when asked about today’s statement of Dash about possible action against the leaders, he promptly said, “It is not applicable for me.”

“He (Naveen Patnaik) has no scope to take action against me. Instead, sufficient grounds are there for action against the person who is saying this,” Rout stated.
