BJD team skips Saradiha project site, invites wrath of Oppn

Bhubaneswar: The Opposition Congress and BJP on Sunday alleged that the ruling BJD’s 12-member team which visited two barrage sites constructed by neighbouring Chhattisgarh government on the upper stream of Mahanadi, skipped Saradiha barrage site fearing stiff protest from the locals staging jal satyagrah (watery protest).

“The locals of Saradiha have opposed BJD team’s visit to the area and resorted to jal satyagrah. The ruling party members feared that they will be blocked midway by the protestors and it will be an embarrassment for them. Had they visited the site, they would have got a clear picture about the barrage and noted it in their report,” Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra said.

The saffron party also alleged that the team ignored the site as it has no courage to face its own fault.
“It is shame that the team skipped the site despite having a gauge office in the region which is run by Odisha government. How an office of the Odisha government failed to notice about the construction on the river?” asked Sameer Mohanty, BJP’s state vice-president.

He said the party lacked seriousness about the matter.

On the other hand BJD scotched the allegations.

“Though Saradiha visit was in our schedule, due to lack of time we could not make it,” BJD spokesperson Prap Keshari Deb said.

The team is expected to submit its tour report within a couple of days to the State government.
