Bhadrak situation normal, says Home secretary

Bhadrak: Even as situation in Bhadrak is slowly limping back to normalcy almost after two days of unrest and large-scale violence, the job of the district administration is far from over.

The senior officials including top officers of Odisha police are closely monitoring developments round the clock.

A three-tier security arrangement has been made to maintain law and order in Bhadrak by dividing the entire town into five sectors, said Home Secretary Asit Tripathy on Monday.

“There has been improvement in the situation and adequate measures have been taken to restore normalcy. The town has been divided into five sectors with deployment of static, mobile and Quick Reaction teams (QRT),” said Tripathy.

A heavy deployment of police force has been made to maintain law and order after there were fresh incidents of arson and shop looting today.

“Already the key accused responsible for the unrest Md. Asif Ali Khan has been arrested and is now in judicial custody. So far we have arrested 73 persons after violence erupted in Bhadrak basing on seven FIRs registered,” said IG Ghanshyam Upadhaya.

Upadhaya further informed that the number of FIRs will go up as more cases are expected to be registered by those affected by arson and violence in the region.

“We are alert and senior officers are supervising the investigation of such cases,” he added.
