ATM thief nabbed again in city
Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Friday night arrested a professional ATM looter from Salia Sahi slum under Nayapalli police limits.
The arrested has been identified as Madhav Acharya.
Speaking to media persons, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said cash worth Rs 35,000 has been seized from Madhav.
Talking about the modus operandi, the DCP said the accused primarily targets the elderly persons who come to the ATM counter to withdraw cash. While withdrawing the cash, Madhav notes down the ATM PIN number of these elderly and with the help of this number, he withdraws cash from their account.
Prior to this arrest, Madhav was earlier arrested by the Khandagiri police in the same case.
“With this money, the accused became the owner of more than one bus. Besides, he is having the bank balance of over lakhs”, the DCP informed.
Asked what action police would take against him this time, Bhoi said the police, after investigation, would frame strong charge sheet so that it would be difficult for him to be released on bail.
“Besides, we will inform all police stations in the state including the twin city giving details about the accused”, he added.
