2 dead, 4 hurt in clash over ‘Dola’ procession
Salepur: Two including a woman were killed and four critically injured during a group clash over the ‘Dola’ procession at Pasulunda village in Salepur on Tuesday evening.
The deceased, identified as Laxmidhara Jena and sister Anu Jena, succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the SCB hospital in Cuttack whereas the four injured are recuperating at the hospital.
Elaborating the incident, Subash Chandra Jena, an injured, said, “During the Dola procession, members of a family, which was banished by the village, forcefully offered ‘bhoga’ to the deity following which other villagers declined to take part in the procession on Monday. However, after intervention from the local police, the matter was sorted out. But today the members of the same family along with some other associates attacked some villagers in the afternoon injuring four persons and killing two.”
He further stated, “No police complaint has been filed yet as we are busy in getting the injured admitted to the hospital.”
Meanwhile, the local administration has deployed one platoon of police force as the situation in the area remains tensed.
