Body recovered from well in Odisha's Bolangir; murder suspected

A sense of shock gripped Buromal village under Kantabanji police limits in Bolangir district after the body of local resident Surendra Bhati was recovered from a well on Sunday. Villagers alleged that Surendra had been murdered in a pre-planned manner, who then dumped his body into the well. 

Acting on the alert, the police and Fire Services team rushed to the spot, drained the well, and recovered the body.

Panic spread in the village after locals spotted the body floating inside a well. On being informed, Kantabanji police along with the Fire Services team reached the location. The rescue personnel pumped out water and carefully brought out the body from the well.

The deceased was identified as Surendra Bhati, a well-known resident of the village. The shocking nature of the discovery created an atmosphere of tension, with villagers demanding a fair and thorough probe.

Villagers Suspect Murder

According to residents, Surendra may have been murdered and his body disposed of in the well to destroy evidence. Many villagers claimed that suspicious activities had been noticed in the area the previous night, prompting concerns of foul play.

Police officials, however, stated that the exact cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem report is received. They also examined the surrounding area for clues and spoke to villagers for further inputs.

Police have begun an inquiry from all possible angles, including personal disputes and external involvement.
