Bhubaneswar: Almost after five days, the body of Odisha mountaineer Kalpana Das was today retrieved from Mt Everest. A team of Sherpas rescued and brought Kalpana’s body to the base camp-4, informed Odisha Sports Department.

It is pertinent to mention that Kalpana Das was the first woman mountaineer from Odisha to scale Mt Everest in 2008. Though Kalpana had successfully reached the summit, she died while descending on May 23, 2019.

According to reports, Kalpana died owing to traffic jam as huge number of climbers queued near the top.

Odisha Sports Department sources informed that the body of Kalpana would be taken to Kathmandu from the base camp and later her mortal remains will be handed over to the family after completion of necessary formalities.
