Body of minor girl found in septic tank in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Palpable tension prevailed at Lathiaguda area in Malkangiri after body of a minor girl who was missing since yesterday, was recovered today from an under-construction septic tank. The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Jani (4), daughter of Laxmichandra Jani.

The matter came to light after a few locals spotted the body floating inside the tank and informed the family members.
According to sources, the girl was missing since yesterday, following which the family members had filed a complaint at police station.

"She didn't return home till late evening. I contacted the district Childline and searched for her everywhere. Today, I found her body floating inside the tank," said father of the deceased, Laxmichandra Jani.

Though the exact reason behind the death of the minor is still unclear, locals suspect that she might have died after falling into the tank.

"The tank is not fully constructed, which is very risky. We request the police to take action against those who had undertaken the construction work," said an official of district Childline, Sukanti Biswal.

Meanwhile, police have sent the body for postmortem and started an investigation into the incident.
