Rourkela: Body of one of the five men, who reportedly went missing at a sewage discharge tunnel while trying to steal scrap from the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), was recovered today, almost a week after the incident.

Meanwhile the rescue team comprising Rourkela police, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), firefighters, CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) and RSP's technical team have continued their efforts to trace the four others.

"My brother was drunk when he entered the tunnel. I request the administration to find him," appealed Manju, relative of one of the missing youths.

On June 3, nine youths from Rourkela's Shitalpada area, had entered the RSP waste outlet tunnel while stealing scrap metals. However, four of them got stuck inside the tunnel.

"We have been able to recover one body so far. The place is dangerous even for the rescue team. We have requested the higher officials of the plants to ask their technical team to assist us understand the plan of the tunnel so that efforts can be made to recover others," said a police official.

Rourkela Superintendent of Police and senior official of the plant are overseeing the rescue operation.
