Bodies of man, woman found hanging from tree

Angul: Mystery shrouds the death of a man and a woman whose bodies were found hanging from a tree in Kumarigaon village under Purunakote police limits in the district on Sunday.

The deceased man has been identified as Madhu Sahu of Dandasinga village while the woman was identified as Shantilata Pradhan of Kothabhuin village.

It is alleged that Madhu and Shantilata had an illicit relationship for the past few years despite the fact that they were married to different persons. As per reports, Madhu and Shantilata left their houses and started staying outside Kothabhuin village after their family members opposed their relationship.

For the last six months, the duo was not seen in the village. However, they might have returned to the village to commit suicide as their relationship was not accepted by their families, said locals.

After receiving information, police reached the spot and begun investigation. The cops also seized a two-wheeler from the spot.

Though it is still unclear that the duo committed suicide or it is a case of murder, police sources said that the duo might have ended their lives out of public shame.
