Malkangiri: At a time when rebels are urging people to extended support to observe martrys' week, a Maoist couple surrounded before Malkangiri superintendent of police on Sunday.

The ultras identified as Mukesh and his wife Ratna decided to shun the path of violence and return to mainstream. Both carried a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively.

"Mukesh was a Maoist area committee member while his wife Ratna was a party member. Both of them have surrendered fearing operation by security forces in view of the recent inauguration of Gurupriya bridge," said Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.

Meena informed that the couple was actively involved in over 40 Maoist violence incidents in Malkangiri and nearby-area. Moreover, the Maoist couple would be provided all assistance as per the rehabilitation scheme.

"We decided to return to main stream fearing operation by police after the inauguration of the Gurupriya bridge. We had joined the rebels for the cause of people. Now we will continue to work for them in the society," said Mukesh.
