Blood scarcity in Koraput hospital leads to pregnant woman’s death

Koraput: Lack of healthcare facilities and scarcity of blood resulted in the death of a pregnant woman in the Maternal and Child Health Centre of Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College in Koraput district today.

The deceased woman, Sabi Bhoi from Masiphuta village in the district was taken to the hospital after she complained of labour pain. She lost a lot of blood while she was being taken to the hospital.

The doctors asked her relatives to arrange blood. However, owing to unavailability of blood at the hospital, the woman lost her life.

Following the death of the patient, the relatives of the deceased woman staged protest by placing the body in front of the hospital. The relatives of the deceased alleged improper treatment and mismanagement of blood bank led to the death of the woman.

Medical authorities were not available for comments.

Police have been deployed on the medical premises as a precautionary measure, informed sources.
