Kendrapara: Cracking whip on unethical practices in the transfer of teachers, the schools and mass education department in Odisha has placed a block education officer besides three other subordinates under suspension in Kendrapara district, officials said today.

The accused officer in collusion with subordinates had resorted to arbitrary transfer orders in gross violation of standing departmental rules and guidelines, they said.

?We have suspended the former block education officer, Pattamundai, Sadananda Guru. Besides three other staff members have also been removed from their posts. Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against them as per Orissa service rules?, District Education Officer Markat Keshari Ray said.

Guru was not immediately available for his omment. There were allegations that favoured teachers were issued transfer order to their preferred place of posting.

State school and mass education department directorate had taken cognisance of the charges and ordered the initiation of disciplinary action against those found guilty.

The allegations were later inquired into. After probe found corroborative evidence of irregularities, the accused officials were suspended, DEO Ray told.

As the government rule specifies the posting of at least one teacher per 25 students in a primary school, the student ratio must have to be taken into account while making posting of a teacher in any of the government schools.

However, inquiry found that posting was made at schools where there were already surplus teachers.

On the other hand, over two dozen of schools were denied teacher posting despite lack of required teachers as per rationalization policy, officials said.
