Block chairman flees after tension over death of newly-wed woman
Sundergarh: Tension gripped Sibanathpur village under Tikayatpalli police limits in Bonai today after a group of villagers attacked the residence of the local Block Chairman protesting the mysterious death of a newly-wed woman.
According to sources, one Ganesh Kishan had been staying as an adopted niece at the house of the Block Chairman in Tikayatpalli. A year ago, the husband of the Block Chairman had arranged the marriage of Ganesh to Rashmita of Nikitamal village. But due to some dispute between the couple, Rashmita was staying away from her husband.
When on Monday night, Rashmita died under mysterious circumstances, her family members alleged that she has been murdered. Police also initiated a probe into the incident and detained the husband of the deceased woman in connection with the death.
However, after the autopsy of Rashmita, her family members sought help from the Block Chairman to arrange for her last rites but the Chairman refused. Displeased over the incident, a few locals barged into the residence of the Block Chairman and ransacked the property of her house.
The Block Chairman along with her family members has reportedly fled the village after the attack.
