Nuapada: With a demand to declare complete drought in Komna and Khadiyal blocks in Nuapada, BJP workers along with farmers took out a rally and gheraoed block office on Monday.

According to sources, the protest joined by hundreds of farmers and party workers was led by BJP State president Basant Panda. After a general body meeting held at Komna bus stand, protest was carried out near the new block office in the district.

Panda alleged that no steps have been taken by the State government to resolve issue of farmers.

"Residents of Komna and Khadiyal blocks are facing drought situation but the government has not declared it officially that's why we are protesting," the BJP State president said.

"Without adequate supply of water our crops are getting affected. Odisha government is not taking any steps to help us," a farmer Bhaja Majhi said.

Earlier on Monday, BJP workers had gheraoed several block offices across the State including the one in Bhubaneswar alleging that due to BJD workers, no work is getting done without paying ‘percentage commission’ (PC). It also alleged that various schemes rolled out by the Centre are not reaching the people and beneficiaries are being chosen on the recommendations of BJD leaders.
