Nuapada: Demanding immediate release of pending crop insurance for farmers of Nuapada, BJP activists today called for a six-hour bandh in the district. The bandh was reportedly observed from 7 AM and continued till 1 PM.

Various business establishments, shops, markets, schools and colleges remained closed in the area, while movement of heavy vehicles was also affected, reports said.

As per the allegations of the BJP, the farmers in Nuapada have been deprived of crop insurance since last two years.

Due to delay in estimation of drought condition, the farmers are yet to receive the insurance for the years 2016 and 2017, they said.

The members of the BJP further alleged that though the state government had submitted a report on the drought conditions, the reports neglected many areas that suffered severe drought. The reports even did not include eight panchayats that faced severe drought conditions, they alleged.

Though the party had been demanding district administration to submit actual facts on the report, they are yet to receive any reply from the administration in this regard.

Meanwhile, the party activists have also threatened to intensify the stir if the demands are not fulfilled at the earliest.
