Bhubaneswar: Apprenhending foul play in by-election to Umerkote assembly seat in Odisha through electronic voting machines (EVMs), BJP demanded replacement of the EVMs taken from Malkangiri district.

In a fresh memorandum to the chief electoral officer, copies of which were sent to the Chief Election Commissioner, election observer of the CEC for Umerkote and returning officer fot the by-election, BJP spokesperson Jeeban Sahoo said his party suspected tampering of EVMs.

The election officer should be directed to replace the EVMs sent to Umerkote with new ones for the November 30 by-election, he said.

Sahoo further alleged that the ruling BJD workers are removing the BJP posters, boardings and gates erected at different locations of the Umerkote Assembly constituency in violation of the election code of conduct.
