Bhubaneswar: Under the apt leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will sweep the Odisha assembly elections with thumping majority, said party’s Odisha in-charge Arun Singh.

Talking to reporters here on the recent survey by a leading national channel which claimed BJP will get 13 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha, Singh asserted that PM Modi’s popularity has grown while resentment is brewing among people against the CM Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) here in the state.

“The BJD-led government has failed on several fronts and is also dipped in corruption. The BJP has gained momentum and the party will clean sweep the upcoming polls in Odisha,” said Singh.

Singh further alleged that Odisha government is now providing lollipops to people through its programmes including the Biju Yuva Vahini or the Ama Gaon Ama Bikash Programme.

“People of Odisha are fed up with poor road conditions, deteriorating health services while several others including teachers and gram sathis have been cheated by the government,” Singh said.

Putting an end to the ongoing speculation over PM Modi contesting elections from Puri, Singh informed that the people across the country want Narendra Modiji to contest from their constituency. However, a final decision in this regard would be taken by PM Modi and the party’s parliamentary board.

BJD spokesperson Amar Satpathy on the other hand stated that its BJP's internal decision while PM Modi contesting from Puri will not have any impact.

"As BJP has got a drubbing in several by-polls particularly in northern States, it seems that they are now eyeing eastern part. But people of Odisha will certainly vote for CM Naveen Patnaik and BJD," said Satpathy.

Revenue Minister Maheshwar Mohanty said, "People of Odisha still have faith on BJD and BJP is trying to gain mileage by giving such misleading statements."
